COLLAGEN - NATURE'S DEFENSE AGAINST AGING

WHAT IS COLLAGEN?

We often talk about collagen as being a benefit in out treatments here at Mel's Hair and Nail Salon, but what is it and what does it do for us? First, collagen is a special type of protein that our bodies naturally produce. It's found in our skin and as a protective layer around our vital organs. It forms a sort of support structure in our tissues that helps give our skin the firm and elastic quality that we all want. It also provides supports around tendons and ligaments. Collagen is important to our hair as well, it is the primary source of the amino acids used to form keratin. Keratin is needed to keep our hair healthy and full. A loss of keratin results in thin and brittle hair as well as hair loss.

As we age, our capacity to produce collagen diminishes resulting in lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. Loss of collagen elsewhere in our bodies results in sore, stiff and painful joints, as well as thin and brittle hair. The effects of collagen depletion typically become apparent around the age of 40.

WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT COLLAGEN DEPLETION?

The most important thing to do is to maintain a healthy diet with plenty of Vitamin C ( we offer Vitamin C boosters during our gluta sessions) and amino acids. Foods like beef, poultry, fish, eggs, and buckwheat are all great sources. This alone won't stop the effects of aging though. Collagen boosting treatments are essential to helping our bodies recover what time takes from us.

The most effective collagen boosting treatments are those that both add collagen as well as stimulate natural collage production. This cannot be done with topical applications. Topical creams may add temporary moisture to the skin, however collagen molecules are too large to penetrate our skin on their own. Effective treatments can only be achieved by a qualified aesthetician. Mel's Hair and Nail Salon offers several highly effective treatment options.

TREATMENT OPTIONS AT MEL'S HAIR AND NAIL SALON

BB GLOW THERAPY: One of our favorite treatments. Collagen is a component of the treatment with additional collagen boosters available. This treatment is done using a specially developed microneedle tool. In addition to placing collagen directly into the skin, the needle as stimulates a healing response forcing the body to speed up its collagen production. While this sounds a little scary, the needle is very tiny and you will only feel a slight tingle sensation. When performed by trained and qualified aestheticians such as those at Mel's Hair and Nail Salon, the treatment is completely painless and will leave your skin firm, elastic, and glowing. Fine lines, wrinkles and blemishes will fade away. Results are visible after the first treatment and are enhanced with each subsequent treatment.

GALVANIC FACELIFT: This is another favorite treatment utilizing a very slight and gentle type of electrical current that helps the collagen booster penetrate the skin. The current also produces a natural collagen production boost. The electrical current is very slight and painless. This treatment is applied with a very special tool designed for aesthetic treatments and performed by trained and qualified aestheticians. Your skin will be soft, elastic, and firm right away.

GLUTA TREATMENTS: We offer a variety of gluta treatments with collagen both as a major ingredient as well as the option to include an additional collagen boost. We'll have an in depth look at the benefits of gluta in a future post, but for now, this is a great and effective way to deliver collagen into the body and one of the reasons why gluta drips are an effective skin enhancement therapy. Mel's Hair and Nail Salon offers daily gluta sessions by appointment.

Collagen is such a vital protein to both our appearance and our health. If you're ready to turn back the clock, stop by Mel's Hair and Nail Salon to speak to one of our trained and qualified aestheticians to learn more and find the right treatment for your skin care goals.
